The Aldi Story

Aldi's Albrecht family initially started selling groceries in Germany. The Albrecht business grew, and by 1961, Aldi opened its first store in that country. In 1976, it opened the first U.S. store in Iowa. The family's philosophy has stayed the same since the early days: sell high-quality basic groceries at low prices. Aldi remains a privately held company.
